My First Night

Last night was my first night sleeping in my bed. You may remember that I have not slept in my bed since loading it onto the PODS late-April. We are one day shy of it being exactly two months since vacating our short-sold home in San Diego.

So I worked my butt off yesterday. I even fought the urge to take a nap because I knew I was in for a treat... my cozy, fluffy bed.

At 10PM my eyes were heavy and I was ready to hit the hay. The house was a frigid 74 degrees, cold enough for me to cover up. I was out in a matter of seconds.

At 3AM I woke up from the worst nightmare. I can't even tell you what the dream was about but it was one of those dreams where in the dream you are terrified of let's say... cereal boxes but creepy 'there is something horrible inside' kind of cereal box and then your loved one reaches for the box and all you know is to either save them from opening the box or run like mad 'cause you don't want to be around when it's opened. Now in the wake up world there is nothing remotely terrible about a cereal box, unless it's shredded wheat. And when you wake up from the dream you are relieved and almost chuckle at the absurdity of the dream. Well that was my dream last night, only I was in a strange place. The only constant was my husband's snore. The longer I laid there I started wondering if the house had rodents or cockroaches. I worried that the computers were putting off to much light in the front room. Did someone break in the house? Did we close the garage door? Is the front door locked? Ugh.

I got up and walked around the house in the dark. I bought some nightlights so the path was slightly illuminated. No cockroaches, the door was locked, the computer lights were not that bright. Went back to bed but as soon as I laid my head down, I saw flashes of those 'cereal boxes'. I could feel my anxiety. I'm in a strange house, in a strange town. To think of home only made it worse. My go-to happy place is none other than Disneyland but that was too much like home so I did what I mostly almost do on night's like these, I woke up my husband. After a short conversation he put his arm around me and I was fast asleep. Whew.

So my first night was not what I thought is going to be. Woke up around 7:30 to a freshly brewed pot of coffee and an ice cold house**. Had to wear my robe!! Today when we go to Costco, I think I need to buy some Tylenol PM's.

**My husband LOVES having this central air and is insisting we keep the theromstat between 68 and 72. It is so hot here, we have never seen the temperature below 74. Well I am happy to report the house cooled down to 68 overnight last night.
