Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center, originally uploaded by A!ison.

Visited the Kennedy Space Center today. It was fascinating!

In the background of today's picture you can see the Space Shuttle Discovery being prepared for it's November 1 launch. The tip of the shuttle is that orange-y part amongst all the slate gray.

A few facts for your reading pleasure:

The space shuttle takes 8 hours to travel from the assembly building to the
launch pad (about 3 miles).
The vehicle transporting the shuttle (the crawler) gets 42 feet to the gallon.
The two boosters used to launch the shuttle are retrieved and reused for future missions.
The large fuel tank is not. It disintegrates when traveling back into the atmosphere.

We thought we'd spend a half a day here but we ended up taking the entire day to explore. It was very informative and very interesting! I'm so glad we went!
