My Roach Story

My Roach Story, originally uploaded by A!ison.

The only thing Special K wants for Christmas is an elliptical machine so I scoured Craigslist and found a used Gold's Gym elliptical. Drove out to the place, bought it, loaded it in the truck and brought it home where it stayed in the garage for a few days.

Last Friday I scrubbed the machine down with hot soapy water. By the time I was done it looked like a brand new machine! So I brought it in the house and hid it in one of the guest rooms.

On Sunday we started noticing (gulp)... cockroaches. And it took me THREE days to realize they were coming from the elliptical. So when Special K got home I presented him with his Christmas gift which was swiftly moved to the garage once again.

I am an idiot on so many levels. I should have known the machine would be infested with SOMETHING. The guy I bought it from lived in squalor. He had a 400 square foot trailer on what looked to be an acre of land and had enough dogs to fill the entire area. There was dog poop and dust everywhere. I felt like I needed a shower after the transaction and I didn't even enter the dwelling! I also should have known it was the machine from the moment we saw the very first bug. I blamed it on the State of Florida instead. I've been waiting for the roaches to show up since we moved here! How stupid am I.

The good news is Special K LOVED it! He immediately started planning out where we will put it. Ah, the honeymoon stage of exercise equipment. =)

So today I went to Home Depot to purchase every type of roach killer they had. While I was there I shot a picture of the flower department. It has been so cold, even Home Depot's flowers had to take cover.

So the morale of this story, don't buy anything from someone who's home looks like it needs to be condemned. I'm sure you already know this. I for one, learned my leasson.

Yikes!!! When we moved I went to get cat litter at the store and as I walked over, I saw a cockroach skitter across the sidewalk and then there was a huge spider in the cat litter aisle...welcome to the neighborhood!
