Right before Christmas I had a routine check-up at the doctors. They discovered that I have bad cholesterol and I blogged all about it here.
I was told, among other things, to take FOUR fish oil supplements a DAY. I thought the doctor was crazy (his good looks makes him less credible) so I checked it out online; trusty ol' google, MD. And to my surprise I will not overdose on 5000 mg.
I started taking all four with my dinner but discovered very quickly that it upset my stomach. The Greek's Wife suggested taking half at night and half the next morning and so now that's what I do. No upset stomach.
I'm taking Nature Made Fish Oil. One of the unpleasant side effects to taking fish oil is the possibility of burping fish and I'm happy to report that that has not happened. Yet. I read that cheaply made vitamins will have distasteful side effects. One way to test your vitamin is to poke a hole in the capsule and smell the liquid that comes out. It should smell like the ocean and nothing more. If it smells fishy, it's bad and you should find another brand.
The benefits to taking fish oil far outweigh any possibility of having some burpee fish taste though. Here is a list:
Eases high blood pressure
Reduces the threat of breast, colon and prostate cancer
Fights Rheumatoid Arthritis
Good for cardiovascular health
Protects from stroke and heart attack
Better brain function and concentration
Lessens depression and psychosis
Lowers incidence of Childhood Disorders

Weight reducing benefits

Great for unborn babies and mothers
