In an attempt to DO more than PIN, I've challenged myself to 28 days of doing. I'm tackling 28 projects found on Pinterest in 28 days. You can see the entire collection of pins here.
Today's Pin: Easy Cupcake Stands
The Pin's Source: Modern Moments
The Gist of It All: A cute little stand to hold up one cupcake. It could be a major tool in decorating a cake table for a party.
- $0.29 each for wooden discs
- $2.99 for a bag of wooden candle sticks
- $2.47 for a bottle of wood glue
- $3.67 for a can of white spray paint
Modifications: I might try to spray paint the pieces first, then glue them together. Might make the painting process less tedious. I would also try sanding the wood a little before applying the paint.
Other Notable Comments: The most difficult part of this project was trying to find the wooden candle sticks. Joanns or Michael's did not carry them. Luckily there is a Hobby Lobby in my area and so I was able to find them there. I would strongly suggest shopping online because a.) gas prices are too high to drive all over town looking for them and b.) you could order various heights of the candlestick and have an even better looking cupcake display.
I only made 3 little stands which ending up taking an entire can of spray paint. I did not primer the wood before hand, I'm sure this would have helped a bit but in my mind it's still 2 cans of paint.
On a side note... it rains every afternoon here in Florida. Gotta love the summertime! But it's seriously interfering with my 28 days of doing. I usually finish up the day's project and start photographing right about the same time the storm clouds start rolling in. I think I end up spending more time trying to get the right light then it takes me to complete the actual project. =)
