Day 7 of 28 Days of Doing - 50 Open-And-Eat Jar Recipes

28 Days of Doing - The Pinterest Challenge
In an attempt to DO more than PIN, I've challenged myself to 28 days of doing. I'm tackling 28 projects found on Pinterest in 28 days. You can see the entire collection of pins here.

Today's Pin: 50 Open-And-Eat Jar Recipes

The Pin's Source: Under the Table and Dreaming

The Gist of It All: The new thing these days is to serve individual portions of food at a party with "food in a jar" being the most popular. I've always crinkled my nose at the "jarred food" thing because it looks like way too much work. Let's face it, baking a standard size homemade pie is work enough! Now you've got to make 25 of them! But even I cannot deny how stinkin cute they are.

  • $2.79 for the *cough*pie filling*cough* (I know this is a cardinal sin but I am all about getting 28 projects done in 28 days and making a pie filling from scratch is just not productive enough at this point time... forgive me please!!)
  • had the ingredients in my pantry for the pie crust (atleast that was homemade) ;-)
  • $0.59 for a box of Jiffy cornbread
Hours: 1 hour 30 minutes

My Version of the Project: I have chosen two open-and-eat recipes... the mini apple pies (mine is cherry) and chili cornbread. I considered making a cake one too but that would be just do dangerous for my waistline. =)

Notable Comments: I can easily tell you friend that even after making these adorable treats, I will never be the kind of person to serve food in a small jar. The amount of time and effort that goes into jarred food is so much greater than the overall appearance and let's face it, that's what these jars come down to, appearance. I'd rather put the same amount of effort into one regular sized pie, that's just how I am and no amount of cuteness will change that. I guess I'm too practical... and lazy.

These are pretty darn cute though.

Those are SOOO cute. I can see how they would have to be a special occasion thing though.

I agree. Maybe if you were having a small dinner party... these would be perfect. But like a birthday party or shower? Forget it.
