Today's Pin: Homemade Tortillas in No Time Flat
The Pin's Source: Food Wishes
- no impact, had everything already in my cupboard
Hours: 30 minutes prep, 20 minute cook time
Notable Comments: Tortilla making is MUCH easier if you have a tortilla press. I happen to have one... there are no good tortillas here in Florida and so my family took pity on me and sent me a press.
The author says "tortillas in no time flat" which I believe. They were quick to make. But notice I skirt around the word "easy". I really believe there is an art to making good tortillas. I think lots of practice has to happen before they start coming out like the fresh hot ones at Casa Guadalajara in Old Town San Diego. The consistency of the dough has got to be right in order for you to get the fine "layers" when one is pulled apart. The thickness has got to be right as well. Even with the tortilla press, the tortillas were a little too thick.
The good news is now I see how quickly a batch can be thrown together. Now it's a matter of just practicing.
